A delegation from the University of Cyprus, the coordinating organisation of the PHAETHON Teaming project visited the University of Groningen (UG) this month, between 6 and 13 June 2024, for a series of Institutional Trainings organised by the latter in their capacity as an advanced partner of the project.

The interactive training sessions took place within the framework of the PHAETHON project’s knowledge transfer and best-practice exchange, covering the foundations of Risk Management, the facets of (Gender) Diversity, as well as Inclusive Recruitment through the lens of the human resources processes at UG.

More specifically, the Risk Management Foundation training covered the risks related to information assets and the way to implement and align effective risk management and control frameworks with the organisational objectives. It was delivered over two days by Herre van Brug (UG).

The Inclusive Recruitment training was delivered by Anita Wagner (UG) over two days and covered the way to conduct an open, transparent, merit-based recruitment process, as well as the way to deal with complex decision-making processes that involve members of different hierarchical levels and with different interests. Additionally, the visiting administrative personnel had the opportunity to attend a “PhD selection and interviewing techniques training” which was conducted by Anna Salzano (UG) and covered defining and further detailing the competencies, qualities, and skills required for a specific PhD position.

The Gender Equality Training covered the research linking (gender) diversity to improved outcomes; relevant concepts, definitions, and frameworks to address (gender) diversity; developing commitment and addressing resistance in the context of organisational change. The session was led by Michaela Carrière (UG).

The visit also included bilateral meetings with counterpart colleagues at UG in specific areas of operations.

Overall, the institutional trainings were both interesting and helpful in the context of setting up and better serving the fledgling PHAETHON Centre of Excellence.
