The first official project meeting for the Teaming for Excellence Project PHAETHON took place on 12 October 2023 at the University of Cyprus, bringing together all Project beneficiaries and REA representatives.
This immediately followed the resoundingly successful High-Level Kick-Off Meeting to officially and publicly launch the project, which took place the day before, welcoming key figures from government, industry, and academia.
The Internal Kick-Off Meeting first welcomed Mr. Patricio Ortiz De La Torre, Head of Sector Widening Participation Unit, European Research Executive Agency, who concisely underscored the Main Policy Aspects of Teaming Action within the HE Work Programme “Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation”.
Prof. George E. Georghiou, speaking as the PHAETHON Project Coordinator, then delivered the Opening Remarks, outlining in parallel the main objectives of the project.
For her part, Dr. Maria KORDA, Project Adviser, Widening Participation Unit, European Research Executive Agency, delved into a valuable analysis of the Legal, Financial and Administrative Aspects of Project implementation.
The meeting also featured a Facilities Tour at the FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy of the University of Cyprus, as well as a Library Tour of the University’s “Stelios Ioannou” Learning Resource Center.
The main part of the day was taken up with descriptions of and discussions surrounding the seven Work-Packages, as well as the way forward, as the partners committed to jointly working towards establishing a world-class Centre of Excellence (CoE).
